Ramblers Dominate the Memphis Blues

The Ramblers ran in 10 tries to the opposition’s 1 on a picture perfect Saturday afternoon. Strong set pieces and good communication set the stage for a strong backline performance that accounted for 9 of the 10 tries.

The Ramblers jumped on top when captain and lock, Colin Heath, took the ball quickly after an early Memphis penalty and charged over the line for the score. That was to be the lone try scored by the Ramblers forward pack for the day. The backs took over and put on a clinic in breaking tackles and running good lines. Winger, Tommy Flynn, and the center pairing of Ryan Lane and Adam Schmitt all dotted down after strong runs in the first half. Flyhalf, Justin Vogt added to the Ramblers score on a scampering run before the break.

The 2nd half saw the Ramblers add to their score with wing, Derek Gnade, and replacement center, Chad “Mac” McDermott. Memphis managed to get on the board midway through the 2nd half when they were able to charge over from a short range scrum. However, the Ramblers answered back through rookie wing, Alex Vogt, who managed to put in 2 tries after taking the field to replace Tommy Flynn. This brings his try tally to 3 in just 2 appearances for the Ramblers. Not to be outdone, Alex’s brother Justin rounded out the scoring for the Ramblers with his 2nd tray of the day. Fullback, Leo Polson, notched 7 of 10 conversions bringing the final score to 64 – 5 in favor of the Ramblers.

Man of Match was awarded to flanker, Pat “Nasty” Conaty, for his hard work around the pitch and his consistent throw ins at the lineout. He anchored a Rambler pack that set the stage for the backs all day long.

A special thanks to Ramblers Doug Aten, Kamron Ahmad, Cameron Gilmore, and Jerin Van Wyk who all helped out Memphis with some game time.

The Ramblers need to use this momentum to carry them through the match next weekend when the meet Springfield RFC for a league match next weekend in Creve Coeur Park.

Tries: Colin Heath, Adam Schmitt, Ryan Lane, Derek Gnade, Tommy Flynn, Justin Vogt(2), Chad McDermott, Alex Vogt(2)

Conversions: Leo Polson, 7 of 10

Note: An aftermatch competition saw a spoons match held between Memphis champ Troy McCall and Rambler rookie Alex Vogt get cut short by management. Vogt was holding his own and clearly had no intention of giving up.
