Match Report
Ramblers vs. KCRFC
April 4th, 2009
A Tale of Two Halves, Here’s One!
The Ramblers travelled to KC for their final league game of the season and with their run of 7 wins in a row the team were feeling optimistic, despite missing a few key players due to injury. The plan was to get a win against KCRFC and leapfrog the Kansas Jayhawks to finish third in the league standings.
The second half got under way and the Ramblers came out fighting with their heads held high and started making some big hits and competed strongly at the break down. With pride at stake the forwards began working over the bigger KCRFC forwards and some niggling ensued and saw several irate KCRFC players trying to take swings at the ever smiling Ramblers.
KCRFC, however managed another break to get the first score of the second half.
But the Ramblers fought back, and some strong rucking 20 minutes into the second half and some wonderful tormenting of the KCRFC forwards saw the Ramblers win a penalty. A quick tap and some strong rucking recycled the ball to Justin Vogt, who with some superb dummy running from the centers and full back crossed the line for a converted try.
10 minutes later the Ramblers were back and some strong attacking defense saw Mac McDermmott and Adam Schmitt make some big hits in the KCRFC 10 meter area and turn the ball over. Schmitt offloaded to sub Charles Bock who charged through a swinging right hand of their aussie Fly half to score an unconverted try.
The Ramblers fought back hard in the second half and focused all their frustrations on the KCRFC and managed to walk away with some pride. Man of the Match went to Brian Haley and special mention went to subs Jeff Bosaw and Charles Bock for their high work rate in the second half.
Just a reminder to all that we are having a Happy Hour for old, current, new and future players and friends at Maggie O Brien’s at 6pm this Friday (April 10).
Oh and in case you were wondering the first half was really painful and the score at the half was 35-0, second half 12-12, final 47-12. Too painful to remember! Ramblers, unfortunately ended up fifth in the standings as KCRFC went on to beat KU Jayhawks 41-0 on Sunday! Come for a beer Friday and I’ll give you all the sordid details!!!
